The man behind the counter
MARCUS HALE, EDITOR
Every review, guide, checklist, and calendar entry on basketball.cards comes across one desk, and Marcus Hale's name is on it. Marcus is the voice of this catalog: the picks in the order sheets, the verdicts on the boxes, the counter advice in the departments.
Straight answer, because a hobby site should give you one: Marcus Hale is a pen name — the byline for this site's editorial desk rather than one person's government name. What the byline stands behind is real: every product recommendation points at a live Amazon or eBay listing, availability comes from the marketplaces' own data, the release calendar tracks the actual Topps, Bowman, and Panini schedule with dates cited to the Trading Card Database, and the reference pages cite checkable numbers — card counts, print runs, set structures — never guesses.
Two things you will never get from this desk: made-up card values (the only prices on this site are live marketplace numbers), and a recommendation we wouldn't put in the order sheet ourselves.
THE HOUSE RULES
- Live listings only. Prices shown come from Amazon's API or eBay's live auctions — never scraped, never invented.
- Real numbers. Set sizes and release dates are cited row by row to the Trading Card Database.
- Honest stock. Sold out means we say sold out — and point you at where the card is actually still moving.
- Disclosed rails. We earn from qualifying Amazon and eBay purchases; it never changes a verdict. Full disclosure in the order desk fine print.
Questions, corrections, or a card you think we got wrong? The contact desk is open.
